Learning Objectives
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Describe the context of chronic pain in children
- Describe the prevalence of chronic pain in children, and common pediatric pain presentations/diagnoses
- Describe how to explain to children within the context of the “3 Ps” approach to pain management
Naiyi Sun MD, & Sara Klein, PT at the Hospital for Sick Children
Dr. Naiyi Sun is a staff anesthesiologist and pain physician at The Hospital for Sick Children. Dr. Sun completed her medical training at Stanford University School of Medicine. She also obtained her anesthesia residency and pediatric anesthesia fellowship training at Stanford University. She worked as a pediatric anesthesiologist at Stanford Children’s Health before returning to Toronto to completed a pediatric pain fellowship. Her clinical focus is on the management of chronic and transitional pain in children.
Sara Klein is a graduate of the University of Toronto with a Masters Degree in Physiotherapy. She is a member of the chronic pain team at SickKids, providing physiotherapy assessment and treatment to children and teens living with chronic pain conditions. Sara has a specialty in pelvic health and has a passion for supporting individuals with pelvic floor dysfunction in both the hospital and private practice. She feels strongly about providing a solid foundation of pain education to her patients as part of the comprehensive treatment plan.
