Palliative Care Needs Assessment (Cycle 4)

Paediatric Project ECHO for Palliative Care is excited to launch its 4th cycle in January 2021. Since the start of ECHO Palliative Care in January 2018, we have proudly delivered 40 sessions and have invited a wide range of specialists to present and discuss clinical topics and patient cases around paediatric palliative care.

Sessions are typically facilitated by our Palliative Care medical leads, Dr. Adam Rapoport and Dr. Kevin Weingarten from SickKids and Dr. Christina Vadeboncoeur and Dr. Stephanie van Zanten from CHEO. This past year we were honored to have Dr. Dave Lysecki and Dr. Gregorio Zuniga from Hamilton Health Sciences facilitate a session and hope to involve more organizations as the program continues to grow.

There have been over 500 interprofessional healthcare providers that have participated in the ECHO Palliative Care sessions. In order for us to tailor the curriculum to your needs this upcoming cycle, we encourage you to complete the needs assessment below. It will take ~10 minutes.

If you wish to participate, once you’ve completed the needs assessment your name will be entered into a raffle for a $50 gift card to a retailer of your choice.

Palliative Care focuses on strategies to enhance the quality of life of paediatric patients and their families while they face issues associated with life-threatening illness, through the prevention and relief of suffering.

This curriculum consists of twelve 90-minute sessions that are offered monthly. Topics include but are not limited to:

  • Ethical considerations
  • Symptom management (e.g. nausea, vomiting, pain, dyspnea, etc.)
  • Talking to children about death
  • Importance of respite care
  • Resources & Supports for Children and their Families
